WHAT ARE WE PREPARED TO PAY TO IMPROVE OUR MENTAL HEALTH ?

I have been back from my holiday nearly a week now and even though I came back feeling refreshed and revitalised it does not take long for the daily grind to kick back in.  After only 3 days of 6am alarms I’m already feeling the affects of the real world !

People will pay hundreds if not thousands of pounds for their holidays and even though getting away from it all can do us good and make us feel better about ourselves how long do those benefits actually last ?

POSITIVE AND LASTING CHANGE……

When it comes to paying for therapy to improve our mental health, many people will dismiss it without even considering that the benefits can last a lifetime.  They just see an hourly rate for the therapist and won’t even consider the positives and lasting changes they can gain.

SUPPORT AND HELP

I prefer not to work on an hourly rate basis as I feel that clients get more if they sign up to work with me for a set period of time.  This means that they have made a commitment both of time and financially and in return get my support and help for a set time period.  This takes the pressure off trying to find the ‘solution state’ within a minimal number of sessions and allows us to work on whatever arises in our sessions on a deeper level which generally means that the client will see lasting change and improvement.

LONG WAY TO GO….

So, really my question is what price our mental health ? Why are people not able to see the value in paying for therapy to make lasting changes in their lives ?

Things have improved in recent years and mental health is now talked about more openly but, as a society we do still have a long way to go.  There is still a big step between admitting you may have mental health problems and taking the next step of approaching someone for help and seeing the value in the cost of that help.
